Self Involved by Alexis Page

Indie product developer and beauty expert behind some of your favorite brands. An insider’s insider, though you may know me from the pink bubble pouch or the “Olsen Concealer”. I've tried almost everything, from the very high to the very low, and have opinions about all of it.

The name Self Involved comes from enough conversations I’ve had with people who seem genuinely interested in what I do while presenting an air that they’re above all of this. They simply “don’t have the time”. They find it “vain”. Yet somehow we all manage to exist on Planet Earth making daily choices, many of which have to do with how we look and feel. (Also, by the way, you really should care about how you feel. It’s neither cool nor noble to treat yourself like garbage.) It’s a sliding scale of involvement for every self and a deeply psychological exercise as to why you’ve chosen to buy one toothpaste over another. Toothpaste counts as a beauty product, I don’t want to hear it.

Covering product intel, extremely 2026 health protocols, longevity witch doctors, industry gossip, drugstore mania, hippie shit, elite performance, what I’m personally into, what I’m really not into, treatments that are worth it, what other people will tell you based on absolutely nothing, weird health regimens I tend to become psycho obsessed with, all of this without any pretense that you need to do any of these things because - you don’t. But it’s also perfectly normal and human to want to do something!

There is no authority but yourself.

About Alexis

The most important person in beauty you’ve never heard of, Alexis Page is the subtle force behind the brands that have reshaped the beauty industry, including Glossier, which she helped launch with C.E.O. Emily Weiss, and Pat McGrath Labs, where she worked for years. A long-standing downtown girl, Page is in just about every Misshapes photo from the aughts. She now runs her own beauty-consulting practice from the East Village.
